Papua New Guinea North Coast & Islands Accommodation

Papua New Guinea’s north coast area has some great holiday accommodation. It is spread out right along the coast from the Milne Bay region right through to Lae and Madang. Quality accommodation here is generally restricted to one hotel or resort in an area so early booking is essential. Starting in the south, the Milne Bay area has two small resorts. At Alotau, inside Milne Bay itself, is the Driftwood fishing resort that features waterfront bungalows with polished timber floors and over water verandahs. A five day tour here includes three nights accommodation at Driftwood, two day fishing tour around Mullins Harbour and a full day fishing tour in Milne Bay. Target species include the giant Papuan Black Bass and Barramundi. The tour also includes two breakfasts, three lunches and two dinners as well as airport transfers. The other resort in the area is the Tawali resort and a four day experience includes a dive and snorkeling trip to the locals reefs, traditional dancing, rainforest walks and a visit to the local school. All meals are included as well as transfers to Alotau airport.

The eight day package includes 10 boat dives and two wharf dives. Both include all meals and airport transfers from Tufi airport. These waters are among the most pristine diving locations anywhere in the world.

In Lae you will find the Quality Hotel Melanesian which is located about two kilometers from the town center. It is close to the Lae Botanical Gardens. The hotel features a restaurant, pool, limited room service and internet facilities. It is air conditioned and has internet access. In Madang is the Comfort Inn Coastwachers, which is rated at three and a half stars. It is walking distance from the beaches, and Madang Lagoon and about two kilometers to the main town area. The hotel features restaurant and bar, pool and sundeck, and cable TV.
